St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital has a 2.4 MW cogeneration system consisting of three 800 kW Waukesha natural gas fired engines. Heat recovery from the engines provides the hospital with 11,500 lbs./hr of low-pressure steam. The steam is used to run a 600 ton absorption chiller during the cooling season and provides steam for heating during the heating season. The system provides the hospital with low-cost, reliable electricity as well as significant savings on their heating and cooling costs.
